New Zealand Champion B Grade Band 2014 | Champion Drum Major of New Zealand 2013-2014

New Plymouth Brass is the oldest brass band in New Zealand. It plays a major part in the cultural and civic life of the New Plymouth District and is recognised as one of the top musical groups in the region. The band competes in the National Brass Band Championships annually, and are currently recognised as a New Zealand B-Grade Band. Many of its players have won, and continue to win national titles. Our mission is to provide musical excellence through fellowship and fun; to build a band that the community is proud of, and to succeed in all aspects.
We practice on Monday and Thursday nights, with Junior band held on Wednesdays. New members are welcome, please contact our musical directors by email using the links below for more information.

2024

The Devon Hotel New Plymouth Brass has hit the ground running this year, and we are looking forward to a great 2024 in banding.

Our first public outing of the year was ‘Brass in the Park’ in Pukekura Park, which is an absolutely lovely setting to play in.

Our Brass Academy and Junior Band programmes are back up and running for 2024, and our Jay Band has also completed their first playout, which was for residents of Jean Sandal Rest Home, which was well received.  Our band cater for musicians of all levels, and welcome anyone interested in learning brass to join us.  Please contact one of the people listed at the bottom of the page for more information.

Our band calendar will be a little busier this year, with two parades on Anzac Day, followed by our  ‘Joint Forces’ Concert on Sunday 28th April, together with Living Harmony.  A selection of music to honour the spirit of the Anzacs.

In July the band will again be competing at the National Brass Band Championships – this year being held in Auckland.  This will involve a three month intensive rehearsal programme, and a public concert before we attend the competition.

Following the Nationals, we will also attend Regional Competitions in Wellington in September, and our Junior Band will also compete at this contest, which will be the first taste of competitive banding for some of our newest Junior players.

We look forward to seeing you during the year, and thank you for your continued support of The Devon Hotel New Plymouth Brass.

Our Give-a-little page is still running, should you wish to contribute to the bands operational costs.  We really appreciate the support of our community.    https://givealittle.co.nz/org/new-plymouth-brass
